Missile Strike Art Therapy Baby (2024)
Mikael Colville-Andersen (2024)
After the missile attacks in Kyiv on 29 December, 2023 I sat down at started drawing female forms. An anxious reaction. I don’t know why. Art therapy in an extreme situation, I guess. Then I decided to present them on a canvas as a testament to the emotional state after such a violent event. Whoever these women are, they helped me get through THAT shit, baby.

The Thrill Is Gone (2024)
Mikael Colville-Andersen (2024)
We were listening to B.B. King in the studio while painting and this song came on. I remembered a journalist who was leaving Kyiv in 2023 who said the same thing. He was leaving because the counteroffensive was failing. Yes, he was a dickhead. Then there was a thing with me and a girl. So… triple sub-text title, boom!

Memory (2024)
The average dead ruzzian soldier killed in combat will be remembered by a handful of poor villagers somewhere - and maybe a dog if he’s lucky. A fallen Ukrainian soldier will be remembered by a nation for generations. But please remember him. Please remember them all. Never forget their sacrifice. I know you will remember - but please do it. Please.
The text in English reads: (TOP) “Don’t forget me” and (BOTTOM) “At least remember me”

War Paint (2024)
These are the remains of many of my other works in this exhibition. A blizzard of texture and form. The bombed rubble of creative pursuits as I tried to figure out what to paint.

Please? (2024)
A friend said this to me as he was getting ready to be mobilised to the front lines. “I just keep thinking…is she going to remember me?” His fear of death was strong, but this was his greatest concern. I am constantly aware of these simple, fragile thoughts in Ukraine. Love, remembrance…
In English the text reads: “Will she remember me?”

It feels like it can be summed up like this:
-Resilience
-Fuck Russia (or everything)
- I hope we survive
Feel free to move the magnet based on how you feel today

It's Getting Harder to See Her Face (2024)
Mikael Colville-Andersen (2024)
A soldier on leave in Lviv said this to me when I asked him what the hardest thing was - emotionally - about fighting in Bakhmut area. Not the mice and rats, the constant threat of death, the cold or fatigue. But this.

In English: “It’s magnificent, but it is not war - it is folly”
Quote by French army general Pierre François Joseph Bosquet, upon seeing The Charge of the Light Brigade during the Crimean War of 1853-1856. The Ukrainian culture of giving flowers is the reference for me. Less flowers given in happy moments. More flowers on graves of dead Ukrainians.

Snafu Ukraine (2024)
The product of not only countless conversations between Kalyna and I but also with many other Ukrainian friends. The crazy existence we all live - trying to be normal while the missiles and drones of the invaders keep on coming. This is probably resilience - but it’s totally SNAFU.

Blast Proof Tape (2024)
A young soldier said this to me in a train compartment in 2022. The windows were covered with tape to protect against glass shards. I took this photo of the sunset outside of the window.
The text in English means: “I’m getting fucking tired of this filter”
